Godspeed Hellbound

A couple of weeks ago I did a photoshoot with ZAKK WYLDE, the legendary guitarist/vocalist of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. Read hear all about how this shoot came to be.

Normally, we were going to do this photoshoot in Belgium when the band performed in the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. It got pushed back on a last-minute notice and we rescheduled it to a couple of days later, in Dortmund, Germany.

My brother went along on this trip to assist. We arrived at the venue in the early afternoon and met up with Boris, Mister Tourmanager Extraordinary. Great guy and so was Phil, Zakk's PA. They were all really helpful.
The shoot was delayed to 4pm, but since we were there, there was plenty of time to look into all possibilities. I knew there was only one set-up possible, so we had to go for the best looking spot. In the end, we agreed on doing the shoot on stage, in front of the massive amps. BLS's crew really helped us with this. They gave their approval, cleared the stage and provided some nice stage light to enhance the look of the amps. Truly amazing!

A bit later, Zakk arrived on stage. He proved to be the nicest guy there is. He did everything I asked him (not that my requests tend to be so odd), but anyway, he did it! Two guitars? No big deal! Sit down in front of the drums? Of course!
While I had expected a five-minute shoot, we shot for about fifteen minutes and they went by in a flash. We just kept shooting and when we were done, Zakk was kind enough to treat me with spontaneous compliments and a nice guitar pick.

Technical wise, I used only one main light for this shoot, in combination with the ambient coming from the stage light.

Can't wait to see the guys again.

A big shout out to Darren, Boris, Zakk and everyone involved for making this possible.
